8/20 Merging Poetic Synapses @ Guide To Kulchur Books

7PM SUNDAY…

Five poets team up in Cleveland for a night of poetic elucidation. Pittsburgh poets Jameson Bayles, Scott Silsbe, and Jason Baldinger read with Kansas City, MO poet Jose Faus and Marisa Moks-Unger, the poet laureate of Erie county, PA.

An open mic follows the reading. No cover.

Jose Faus is a writer and visual artist based in Kansas City, MO. He is a founding member of the Latino Writers Collective and a board member of the Writers Place, a resource and advocacy center for Kansas City area writers. Jose is a 2012 Rocket Grant recipient for the community project VOX NAVARRO. His writing has appeared in many anthologies, including Primera Pagina: Poetry from the Latino Heartland; Cuentros del Centro: Stories from the Latino Heartland; Raritan; Whirlybird; Luces y Sombras; and I-70 Review. His book “This Town Like That” is part of Prospero’s Pop Poetry Series. He maintains a studio in downtown KCK, and his murals can be seen all over Kansas City.

Marisa Moks-Unger is the 2016-2018 poet laurete of Erie County, PA and is the author of a collection of chapbook-length poetry, Mud and Stars (Nightballet Press, Cleveland, 2015). Her work also appears in such publications as Midwestern Gothic Literary Magazine, Pressure Press Poetry, Hesler Street Fair Poetry Anthology, Guide to Kulchur Creative Journal, Dwelling in Possiblity: Voices of Erie County, and Eternal Snow, an anthology influenced by Yuyutsu Sharma. Moks-Unger holds an MA in English from Gannon University and earned a BA from the University of Central Florida in Orlando where she majored in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing. In addition, Marisa created a three-part ekphrastic poetry video series, called Picture This: Residents Respond to Art.

Scott Silsbe was born in Detroit. He now lives in Pittsburgh, where he writes, makes music, and works as a bookseller. His poems have appeared in numerous periodicals including Lilliput Review, Nerve Cowboy, and Chiron Review. He is the author of Unattended Fire (2012), The River Underneath the City (2013), and Muskrat Friday Dinner (2017).

Jason Baldinger has spent a life in odd jobs. Somewhere in time he has traveled the country and wrote a few books, the latest of which, Fragments of a Rainy Season will be available through Six Gallery Press later this year. A recent list of publishing credits include: Uppagus, Lilliput Review, Rusty Truck, Dirtbag Review, In Between Hangovers, Your One Phone Call, Winedrunk Sidewalk, Anti-Heroin Chic, Nerve Cowboy and Heartland! Jameson Bayles is a roving correspondent for Poetrybay and was the co-curator of the 2016-2017 KC Poetry Throwdown held in Kansas City, MO. His work has been published in numerous literary journals and magazines; including Poems-For-All, Hedgerow, The Ambriel Revolution, Thirteen Myna Birds, Rusty Truck, Your One Phone Call and on Rumrazor.com. Jameson’s work can be found in the collaborative reader “A Case For Ascension” (Asinimali Publications, 2015), the 2016 Hessler Street Poetry Fair Anthology (Crisis Chronicles Press) and “Delirious- A Poetic Celebration of Prince” (Night Ballet Press, 2016), “Recession In Neverland” (Paladin Knight Publishing, 2017) and his solo work “legends of doe hoe” (Spartan Press, 2017).

It’s the first Saturday in August and we are celebrating, we are always celebrating, to welcome former Kansas City denizen Jameson Bayles to his new homebase of Pittsburgh. Jameson will be joined by Theresa Brightman (Akron, OH) Scott Douglas (North Carolina) Lynn Alexander (Easton, PA) and local Don Wentworth. This event is free, but we will be passing the hat for our traveling artists. This event is byob, this event does not have a famous blue raincoat. Bios to follow for anyone who reads those things.
