Jason Baldinger recently finished a stint as writer in residence at the Osage Arts Community. He’s the author of several books, the most recent are This Useless Beauty (Alien Buddha Press), The Ugly Side of the Lake (Night Ballet Press) written with John Dorsey and the chaplet Fumbles Revelations (Grackle and Crow).The collection Fragments of a Rainy Season (Six Gallery Press) and the split book with James Benger Little Fires Hiding (Spartan Press) are forthcoming. Recent publications include the Low Ghost anthology, Unconditional Surrender, Outlaw Poetry, Uppagus, Lilliput Review, Anti-Heroin Chic, Nerve Cowboy Concrete Meat Press, Zombie Logic Press, Solidarity and Resistance.

Charlie Brice is a retired psychoanalyst and is the author of Flashcuts Out of Chaos (WordTech Editions, 2016) and of Mnemosyne’s Hand (WordTech Editions, 2018). His poetry has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and has appeared in The Atlanta Review, Hawaii Review, The Main Street Rag, Chiron Review, Fifth Wednesday Journal, SLAB, The Paterson Literary Review, Spitball, Plainsongs and elsewhere.
 
Romella Kitchens is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. She is a poet, a quilter, a painter, and a playwright. Her work has appeared in 5 AM, California Quarterly, Chiron Review, Main Street Rag, The Autumn House Anthology of Contemporary American Poetry, Iodine Poetry Journal, Mudfish Review, uppagus, and others. She has done poetry residencies and has addressed many school groups concerning poetry. In 2014, she was a judge for the city-wide level of Poetry Outloud. Her chapbooks include Hip Hop Warrior, The Immortals, The Red Covered Bridge and The Heaven Of Elephants.
 
Deena November is the author of Mean Mama (Main Street Rag, 2017). She has edited two anthologies, Nasty Women & Bad Hombres (Lascaux Editions, 2017) and I Just Hope It’s Lethal (Houghton Mifflin, 2005). Her poetry has appeared in Nerve Cowboy, Chiron Review, Women Write Resistance, Mom Egg Review, Pittsburgh Poetry Review and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette among others. Her chapbook Dick Wad was published by Hyacinth Girl Press in 2012. She holds an MFA in Poetry from Carlow University. Deena has taught at Robert Morris University, Carlow University, Seton Hill and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online. She curates the Staghorn Poetry Series. 
 
Kayla Sargeson is the author of the full-length collection First Red (Main Street Rag, 2016) and the chapbooks BLAZE (Main Street Rag, 2015) and Mini Love Gun (Main Street Rag, 2013). She serves as the poetry editor for Pittsburgh City Paper’s online feature Chapter & Verse and with Lisa Alexander, co-curates the Laser Cat reading series. Sargeson lives in Pittsburgh where she teaches at Duquesne University, Carlow University and the Community College of Allegheny County.
 
John Stupp‘s third poetry collection Pawleys Island was published in 2017 by Finishing Line Press. His manuscript, Summer Job, won the 2017 Cathy Smith Bowers Poetry Prize and will be published in August 2018 by Main Street Rag. His latest effort When Billy Conn Fought Fritzie Zivic is making the rounds. He lives in Sewickley.

8PM WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 29…

The Bridge Series unites the Pittsburgh literary and activist communities to raise awareness and funds for local organizations fighting the good fight in these troubling times.

The series convenes the last Wednesday of each month at The Brillobox. Each installment will feature Pittsburgh’s finest writers and a special guest organization (with proceeds from the evening going directly to that organization).

$5 cover.

Tonight will feature readings from:

RJ Gibson holds an MFA in Poetry from the Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College. He is the author of the chapbooks Scavenge (co-winner of the 2009 Robin Becker Prize) and You Could Learn a Lot, both from Seven Kitchens Press. His work has appeared in Court Green, Waxwing, Columbia Poetry Review, Kenyon Review Online, the Cortland Review, OCHO, Waxwing and other journals. His work has been anthologized in My Diva: 65 Gay Men on the Women Who Inspire Them, Collective Brightness: LGBTIQ Poets on Faith, Religion & Spirituality, and Walk Til the Dogs Get Mean: Meditations on the Forbidden from Contemporary Appalachia. He lives and works in West Virginia.

Bri Griffith is an undergraduate Creative Writing student at Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA, where she emcees the Red Dog Reading Series. A proud member of the Madwomen in the Attic, her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in ‘Pittsburgh Poetry Review,’ ‘ITWOW International Anthology,’ ‘Alien Mouth,’ ‘Rogue Agent,’ ‘Maudlin House,’ ‘Inside The Bell Jar,’ ‘Nasty Women & Bad Hombres Anthology,’ and elsewhere.

She co-directs the MadMentoring program and is the poetry editor for Pittsburgh City Paper’s online feature Chapter & Verse. She Runs SWPA aims to give a diverse set of women, especially women of color, the voice and representation that enables change in our political system by, (1) Exposing gender bias in the political system (2) uncovering issues that disproportionately affect women in Southwest, PA (3) convening resources that enable women to be involved, active citizens and (4) encouraging and enabling women to run for office.

This free event features 20 poets! Join us on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 7pm at South Side’s literary mecca, the Tiki Lounge (2003 East Carson St., 15203). Can’t make it? Books will be available via Amazon and fine local bookstores. Special book price for the evening is $15 – though the event is free.

All proceeds will be donated to the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Pittsburgh Women’s Shelter and The Art House in Homewood. Poet’s Bios:
 
Celeste Gainey is the author of the full-length poetry collection, the GAFFER (Arktoi Books/Red Hen Press, 2015), and the chapbook In the land of speculation & seismography (Seven Kitchens Press, 2011), runner-up for the 2010 Robin Becker Prize. The first woman to be admitted to the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees as a gaffer, she has spent many years working with light in both cinema and architecture.
 
Scott Silsbe was born in Detroit. He now lives in Pittsburgh where he writes, sells books, and makes music with friends. His poems and prose have appeared in numerous print and web periodicals including Nerve Cowboy, Kitchen Sink, Third Coast, The Volta, and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He is the author of two poetry collections: Unattended Fire and The River Underneath the City.

Please join us Friday, March 13th for more Friday the 13th action from Angele Ellis, Gail Langstroth, and Sheila Carter Jones.

Angele Ellis’s fiction and poetry have appeared in over 40 publications and eight anthologies. She is author of Arab on Radar (Six Gallery), whose poems earned her a fellowship from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and Spared (A Main Street Rag Editors’ Choice Chapbook). She lives in Friendship, both a neighborhood and a state of mind.

Poet, eurythmist and international stage artist Gail Langstroth makes Pittsburgh her home. An MFA in Poetry from Drew University, winner of the Patricia Dobler Poetry Prize, 2011, finalist with her chapbook Hyena Dreams in the 2014 Accents Chapbook Competition, Langstroth is also a free-lance columnist for the online journal Vox Populi. Her article, The Named, The Nameless, won the Jeffster Award for Best Social Justice Blog. In May of 2015 Langstroth premieres her latest performance piece: Turfinfinite/Tierradentro in Madrid. La Ciudad de la Cultura, Santiago, Spain, will host her homage to the Galician poet, Manuel Antonio, July, 2015.

Sheila L. Carter-Jones taught in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, at Chatham University and at the University of Pittsburgh. She earned her BA from Carnegie Mellon University and both a M.Ed. and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. She is also a fellow of both Cave Canem, a and the Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop. Her poetry has been published in Crossing Limits, Pittsburgh Quarterly, Pennsylvania Review, Tri-State Anthology, Riverspeak, Flights: The Literary Journal of Sinclair College, Coal: A Poetry Anthology, City Paper, Cave Canem Anthology and Voices from the Attic. She has a chapbook entitled Blackberry Cobbler Song and her manuscript Three Birds Deep was selected by Elizabeth Alexander as the 2012 winner of the Naomi Long Madgett Poetry Book Award. Her recent chapbook Crooked Star Dream Book was named runner-up for the 2013 New York Center for Book Arts Chapbook Contest. Currently, she is working on a new manuscript of poems tentatively entitled The Newly Invented Lucky Star Dream Book and a memoir yet to be titled.
